TEHRAN – Private sector will launch Iran’s first film festival on the handicapped -- the Parvaz International Film Festival -- at Tehran’s Azadi Tower today.

The festival aims to review their lives and hidden potential, the secretary of the festival, Fatemeh Amiri, announced in a press conference on Sunday

A selection of short films and documentaries, reflecting the abilities of the handicapped and studying their active participation in society, will go on screen during the event, she added.

“Out of 300 submissions, a total of fifty short films and documentaries were selected by a board of selection that included cineastes and sociologists Shahab Hosseini, Kianush Ayyari, Khosrow Masumi, Majid Mesbahi and Mostafa Sahrai,” she stated.

Most of the foreign submissions are from India and the Philippines.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, the closing day of the festival.
